The BBC is keeping up the interest in Peter Capaldi’s first season as the Twelfth Doctor with a continual series of mini-announcements. This week we learn that there will be a new companion in the TARDIS – Danny Pink played by Samuel Anderson (History Boys + others). The BBC blog story is: Rising Star Joins Doctor Who for Peter Capaldi’s First Series.
The idea of a second companion has been around for a few months – the apparent age gap between the Doctor and Clara is now too wide for romance (despite that fact that technically the Matt Smith Doctor was possibly 2,000 or more year older than her). There has been speculation that there would be a younger male companion to give Clara someone she might get involved with.
[pullquote]Danny Pink…makes a wonderful symmetry[/pullquote]
For me the fact that Danny Pink will be another Coal Hill teacher makes a wonderful symmetry with Ian and Barbara (and who wants to bet against Ian making an appearance at some point – he is a school governor!) and all we need now is someone for the Susan role and we are back to where we started.
Curiously I have also seen posts suggesting that Capaldi’s Doctor is a new First Doctor in that the Time Lords didn’t give him new regeneration(s) but reset him back to his first.
All speculation but what do you think? My first strong memories are from Jamie and Victoria in the TARDIS so this is a recipe I know can work. Comments?
