I’m very pleased at the new (or rather improved) TARIDS interior for series 12 for several reasons. If you look at the Radio Times piece (Doctor Who’s TARDIS: an exclusive guide to the new changes) you get a sense of light and better use of space.

One thing I didn’t like about series 11 was the under-use of the TARDIS and how limited the set seemed to be. Previous regenerations had made good use of the interior and the limited time we had it during series 11 was a frustration. Budget or time or just design I’m please we get more of it. I’m still not sold on the crystal theme but I’ll give it time [!].
