Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords comes to the Black Archive

Obverse Books has announced the Black Archive release of Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords. Writer James Mortimer takes a deep look at this pair of episodes in the 38th (!) release in the range.

Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords

In their own words:

The culmination of a complex season arc, The Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords (2007) was a controversial pair of episodes, which side-lined the Doctor, enslaved the Jones family, and pushed Martha to the fore.
It includes many themes that move Doctor Who into a new, darker territory. This Black Archive discusses the representation of Lucy Saxon and Martha Jones, and the reinvention of the Master as an embodiment of toxic masculinity and considers the idea of the Doctor as a God.

James Mortimer explores the show’s mythos, and asks how much the format is changed and challenged by these episodes.

It’s available now.
