The Chibnall Masterplan and series 13

As I write this today is Friday 13th. I’m not overly superstitious, but I suspect there’s a pun to be made around series 13 and being lucky for the show. Be that as it may, the new world of the Chibnall Masterplan means changes for Doctor Who. It might be nice to take the Jason Bourne…

Why does Doctor Who need a masterplan?

With the reveal of the Chibnall Masterplan for Doctor Who in The Timeless Children and in light of the furore over what it means (including several posts of my own), I thought it worth reflecting on if / why the show needs a reset. In a nutshell I believe these things are both inevitable and…

How many Time Lords are left after series 12 (spoilers)?

The Timeless Children, indeed series 12, launched the Chibnall Masterplan in grand if not apocalyptic style. We are shown the burning wasteland of the Capitol on Gallifrey, and told a lot more (spoilers after the break). Is it all true and what actually does it mean for the Time Lords?

What do we know about the Chibnall Masterplan?

With The Timeless Children like it or not Doctor Who entered a new phase. In the 1980s / 90s we had aspects of the Cartmel Masterplan, then RTD reset the show to bring it back. Steven Moffat undid some of that, weaved his own ideas and now Chris Chibnall has really stirred things up. There’s…

Other views on The Timeless Children

It’s fair to say you can find any opinion you want on The Timeless Children. I think it has lots of problems. Despite some bits working well, a more focussed story (and spreading the Chibnall Masterplan across several episodes) would have worked better for me. Here’s a selection of other opinions.

The Timeless Children review

I find myself in a strange place. I quite enjoyed The Timeless Children as an entertainment, yet found it badly flawed, clunky and a bit disappointing. I also found the massive re-engineering of the show’s mythos a bit unnecessary (and it had been leaked). Here I will focus on the core elements that (kind of)…

What do we know about Revolution of the Daleks?

While I let my review for The Timeless Children simmer, I’m turning my attention to the 2020 Christmas / New Year special Revolution of the Daleks. Brownie points for both a Dalek title beginning with R (there’s a list) and the possibility of evolution hidden inside (well we’ve just had an ascension!)

The DWC writers collective view on Ascension of the Cybermen

If you get to the end of this stark (and largely negative) assessment of Ascension of the Cybermen you’ll see my comment about trying to stay positive. Maybe it will all be wonderful, but a lot of plates are in play for The Timeless Children. Until tonight, here are our views on last week: HERE’S…

More Musings on the Timeless Children

It’s nearly the end of series 12 of Doctor Who so plenty of speculation required. I’ve already put together some Thoughts ahead of the Timeless Children and there’s so much at play here I need to record some more. I’ve also speculated on the fate of the companions. Now I’ve rewatched the (short) YouTube trailer,…
