It’s that curious weekend between Christmas and New Year. We have had no Christmas special for the second year running, but in eight days time we will have had two episodes of series 12! Until then I thought I’d cover one of my favourite of the Christmas specials – The Christmas Invasion.
September means time to think Ninth Doctor. And yes, it’s been over fourteen years (!!) since the Doctor and Rose burst onto our screens. The collected Radio Times reviews are here, and I largely agree with the ratings if not the details therein. All are worth a read.
According to twitter, issue 490 of the Celestial Toyroom from the DWAS is now shipping. Details of the magazine on the DWAS website. I’ve no connection to this issue, but just wanted an excuse to publish a copy of the fabulous Rose montage used as the cover! <– Message Ends –>
It’s not quite Rose Tyler: Defender of Earth, but Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon is a new Big Finish series starring Billie Piper (and others) charting just what happened between her exile and reunion with the Doctor. Available in September 2019, it’s available to order now.
If you haven’t heard, Matt Fitton’s Tenth Doctor story Cold Vengeance will be coming to limited edition vinyl! It’s another HMV release, this time on Friday October 5, 2018. Nick Briggs (who directed the story) had this say: Mark your diaries because this is sure to sell out. HMV is an incredible partner to work with and because…
You’ll have noticed a few new series Target branded books coming out recently (2018) from Penguin books. They’ve been out in hardback a while, but thanks to an Amazon offer, I picked up a couple in paperback. First up, of course, is the Russell T Davies Ninth Doctor novelisation of Rose.

Big Finish…
One of the first products with the new Doctor Who branding is a Penguin book for young children: Doctor Who: One Doctor, Two Hearts. It’s a learn to count book, ideal for young time tots [did I really just write that?!], written and illustrated by Adam Howling.
I enjoyed the all-female writer The Day She Saved The Doctor collection for several reasons. It was nice to have Sarah Jane Smith in Jaq Rayner’s story, and to hear new writers Susan Calman and Dorothy Koomson. My review is on Starburst: THE DAY SHE SAVED THE DOCTOR. *** Message Ends ***
This month (March 2018) sees the seventeenth release from the Black Archive, and it’s the double episode story The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit. Written by Simon Bucher-Jones, it’s currently on sale at a mere £4.99 at 182 pages. If you feel like checking this out, it’s available here: The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit.…
Coming in September 2018 is another collection of Doctor Who stories with a female companion spin: Doctor Who: The Women Who Lived: Goodnight Stories from the Whoniverse. There’s no cover yet, but writers so far announced include Simon Guerrier and Christel Dee. We do have some details:
