Doctor Who: The Hunting Ground review

At the end of a positive glut of seventh Doctor stories, the Big Finish main range sneaked in a Sixth Doctor story, The Hunting Ground by AK Benedict. It’s a charming story of Icelandic intrigue, police work and enough science fiction added to make it a Doctor Who story without getting in the way of the story. It…

Eleventh Doctor Chronicles review

The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles gives Jacob Dudman the chance to perform as the Eleventh Doctor in four hour-long audio dramas. They are in the Companion Chronicles format, meaning (generally) narrative and a second actor to flesh out the story. Under the watchful ear of director Helen Goldwyn, Jacob does (another) great job in recreating a modern incarnation of the…

Torchwood: Aliens Among Us 1 review

So, we now have the first set of Torchwood stories set in what would have been (so we are informed) the fifth series of the TV show. Heavily informed by Children of Earth and ignoring (so far, and I hope permanently) Miracle Day, this is a Phoenix like rebirth in the city of Cardiff and more than just a set…

Shadow Planet World Apart review on Cultbox

I penned some thoughts on the June main range dual release Shadow Planet / World Apart for CutBox: Big Finish Doctor Who Shadow Planet/World Apart review. It’s an interesting and very different pair of stories from AK Benedict (Shadow Planet) and Scott Handcock (World Apart). The Seventh Doctor, Ace and Hex have plenty to do in these two…

Torchwood Aliens Among Us announced

Announced today is a new Torchwood boxset and effectively Torchwood Series 5. Released in three four-disc boxsets starting in August 2017, Torchwood: Aliens Among Us is about the rebuilding of the Cardiff base and a darker version of Cardiff. Others sets will appear in October 2017 and in the new year. This is effectively a 12 episode season!

Torchwood Outbreak review on Cultbox

I’ve reviewed the rather wonderful Torchwood – Outbreak over on Cultbox. It’s yet another excellent set of stories by Guy Adams, Emma Reeves and AK Benedict, unites most of the TV cast and is directed by Scott Handcock. The review is: ‘Torchwood: Outbreak’ review: Big Finish bring Jack, Ianto and Gwen back together. … Message Ends …

Three Class books announced

So, BBC 3 will start letting us see Class from October 22, 2016 and a few days later (October 27) we can also buy some Class books. Does this mean we might get some class audios from the BBC at some point? Can we already start wondering when Big Finish will get the license?

Torchwood: The Victorian Age reviewed

Writer AK Benedict kicks off the second series of Big Finish Torchwood with the subtly brilliant The Victorian Age. Set in the 1890s, twenty years after the founding of Torchwood in Tooth and Claw, this story is packed full of surprises, and mad memorable moments. It may throw some listeners in terms of the direction it takes, but…

Torchwood: The Victorian Age

It may not quite be the Victorian Torchwood of the TV, with agents Alice Guppy and Emily Holroyd (pictured) but as announced at Big Finish Day 8 (see other notes here) the second series of Torchwood audios starts with an inspection by Queen Victoria! Like many fans I feel there is plenty of potential in setting the show earlier…
