Doctor Who: Chase the Night review

Jonathon Morris’s Chase The Night was released with Purgatory 12, and in some ways follows the same pattern: with exotic world-building and substantial peril but for this release, the focus (if there is one) is Romana. Beyond looking for deep insights (the plague of being a reviewer) Chase The Night is another strong release in…

Doctor Who: Purgatory 12 review

The 2020 Fourth Doctor Adventures expand the period when the Doctor, Romana, K9 and Adric were trapped in e-Space. January gave us two stories each taking two discs – very much the form of four classic TV episodes. First of these is a strong Marc Platt tale – Purgatory 12.

The Fourth Doctor goes back to e-Space!

Big Finish has today released the first of two four-disc sets for the Fourth Doctor taking him back to e-Space! That means Romana, K9 and Adric. They’ve also released some details about February’s stories, and of course Adric must surely mean Andrew Smith?!

Jane Asher in the TARDIS with the Fourth Doctor

Big Finish has announced a surprise celebrity casting for January 2020’s Fourth Doctor release Chase the Night. It’s a Jonathan Morris story released as part of The Fourth Doctor Adventures Series 09 Volume 1. Jane previously appeared in the Sarah Jane Adventures as Sarah Jane’s childhood friend Andrea Yates.

More vinyl delights for Big Finish Doctor Who fans!

Following the sell-out success of Big Finish Productions limited edition Doctor Who stories on vinyl, the audio company is delighted to announce another exclusive release. Sainsbury’s will launch Doctor Who: Wave of Destruction starring Tom Baker, Lalla Ward and John Leeson on Friday 19th July 2019. It will be released as a Limited Edition run…

Ann Kelso, companion or not?

Before you read this post, I must warn you it contains massive spoilers for the Fourth Doctor Adventures Series 8 The Syndicate Masterplan. If you haven’t heard those, please click away now. This post will ruin your listening pleasure. I don’t normally produce posts like this, but Ann Kelso is more complex than appears on…

Fourth Doctor Comic Strip Adaptations Vol 1 review

I rather enjoyed The Fourth Doctor Comic Strip Adaptations Volume 01, in fact rather more than I expected to. I wrote a review on CultBox (The Fourth Doctor Comic Strip Adaptations Volume 1 review) but suffice it to say well done to Alan Barnes for his adaptation and I hope we get to hear much…

The Perfect Prisoners Part Two review

Following the events of The Perfect Prisoners Part One, the Fourth Doctor is not happy, not happy at all. Someone is killing off the Syndicate and he’s realised just who that someone is. In The Perfect Prisoners Part Two the truth will finally be uncovered, and we may not like what we find. Huge spoilers…

The Perfect Prisoners Part One review

The 2019 eighth series of Fourth Doctor adventures continues apace with The Perfect Prisoners Part One. If you haven’t listened yet, go away now. I won’t reveal everything but I will say John Dorney has really delivered on this. Spoilers follow…

Fever Island review

The second story in the second set of the Fourth Doctor Adventures volume 8 is Fever Island by Jonathan Barnes. As is often the way it serves as an interlude amongst the other stories and provides a break from the Syndicate’s activities. It is nonetheless rather splendid!

Time’s Assassin review

Guy Adams picks up the adventures of the Fourth Doctor and new assistant WPC Ann Kelso where he left them at the end of The False Guardian. From here on in it’s spoilers a-plenty, I’m afraid. Buckle up and prepare for trouble!

The False Guardian review

The final part of the Fourth Doctor series The Syndicate Master Plan is the Guy Adams tale The False Guardian. As a fan the biggest problem with this story is waiting until next month for its conclusion in Time’s Assassin and as a reviewer there’s the challenge of talking about the story without giving away its twists. Here goes…
