Apologies if this is the most trivial post you ever read (and I ever make) but I’ve spotted something a bit geeky about the Big Finish theme tune for the new series UNIT stories. It came about while listening to UNIT: Incursions (review coming) and thinking about just how to write a theme tune…

The UNIT theme tune

First, remind yourself of the UNIT theme (eg from the YouTube clip for UNIT: Extinction). It’s big, it’s in your face and has a great hook at the beginning. Just how did Howard Carter come up with it?

Guess what? It’s the Morse Code for the word UNIT! Yes, a device used for the theme tune to Inspector Morse it’s a great, simple idea and one I’d never spotted before.

This is now when dozens of people tell me everyone knew this already!
