Apologies for the techno-babble title – this is an update on the increasingly long list of downloads now upgraded to 256 kbps (and also now having audiobooks available). My list of upgraded files (with dates) is here: Main Range (and other) titles now available as 256 kbps. Yes the title isn’t very snappy, but what can you do?!
The vast bulk of this information has been provided by Mark from the Big Finish forum. Mark has also given this summary of where the original issues started being provided in 256 kbps:
Everything Doctor Who related released since Sept/Oct 2010 has been provided in 256 kbps MP3 and Audiobook
Dark Shadows releases since May 2012 has been provided in 256 kbps MP3 and Audiobook
I think all Blake’s 7 releases have been profvided in 256 kbps MP3 and Audiobook
Mark has also spotted the pattern behind when titles get upgraded:
A title in the 1st 50 in the main range is out of print on CD
A tittle released prior to the dates mentioned is chosen as that month’s Listeners £2.99 download
A big sale has occurred, eg the Big Finish 15 years sale titles were all upgraded
A writer/director requested an upgrade.
My last thought is that with a big tranche of Eight Doctor Adventures being upgraded we might be getting a sale in line with the release of Dark Eyes 3.
