New Lost Story: The Doomsday Contract

Blood on Santa’s Claw review

I wasn’t too enthused by the 2019 Sixth Doctor and Peri trilogy; this Christmas collection, Blood on Santa’s Claw and Other Stories I found rather good. Sixie, Peri plus boyfriend, new writers and Nev Fountain. It’s a treat from first to last. Four stories with a Christmas connection – let’s dive in!

Details of Doctor Who Christmas Special 2019!

Before you get too excited, it’s the Big Finish Doctor Who main range release Blood on Santa’s Claw. That said, this four short story release looks like one heck of a Christmas treat. Details below:

Peri and Sixie: what happened after The Trial?

Back in 2014, Big Finish started to tell Peri’s story subsequent to the events of The Trial of a Timelord. These started with The Widow’s Assassin, but we only had one short run. Recent Sixth Doctor and Peri stories hopped back to Peri’s earlier time on the show. Big Finish has now created Doctor Who…

Missy Series 1 review on CultBox

I rather loved Missy Series 1 and said as much in my CultBox review. It’s four great stories by Roy Gill, John Dorney, Nev Fountain and Jonathan Morris and Michelle Gomez is brilliant to listen to (and her episode with Rufus Hound as the Meddling Monk is just one highlight). Read my review here: Missy…

Missy comes to Big Finish

In news bound to prove popular, Big Finish has revealed Michelle Gomez will return to the part of Missy for a boxset due February 2019. We don’t have all the details of stories but we do know she will be meeting the Meddling Monk as played (with relish) by Rufus Hound. The set is available…

The Diary of River Song Volume 3 review

By any measure, The Diary of River Song Volume 3 is rather good indeed. It adds some new writers into the new-series mix, it gives River a proper nemesis in the form of Madame Kovarian, it continues her encounters with past incarnations of the Doctor, in this case Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor, has good stories, great casting…

Scientific Secrets signing on Kasterborous

Over on Kasterborous I produced a short write-up (with plenty of pictures thanks to promoter Sophie Goodfellow) of the book signing at Forbidden Planet for Simon Guerrier and Dr Marek Kukula’s book The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who.

The Widow’s Assassin reviewed

The Widow’s Assassin is not just any Sixth Doctor and Peri story but the one where the Doctor goes back to Peri following the (confusing) events of Trial of a Time Lord. Not only is continuity interesting at this point, Big Finish also added to the complexity with Peri and the Piscon Paradox. If that wasn’t enough, don’t forget that…

Breaking Bubbles reviewed

Breaking Bubbles is the 2014 multi-story release for the main range and consists of four stories for the Sixth Doctor and Peri. These multi-story releases often turn up something interesting and follow no consistent formula. Some have a vague arc, some a theme, this is in parts a showcase for writers new to Doctor Who  or even…

The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield reviewed

After sixteen years with Big Finish Bernice Summerfield gets a new jumping-on point which has been branded with a Doctor Who logo. This set consists of four stories, interviews and features not only Benny but also the Seventh Doctor and Ace. I’ve only heard the odd Bernice Summerfield story so this is also a chance for me to…
