Lost in Space with Nyssa!

Big Finish has released the July Short Trips story Downward Spiral. It’s read by Sarah Sutton, so no surprise to find the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa in this claustrophobic Alan Flanagan story. It’s worth reading the press release (below).

Science of the Time Lords

If you can get to Leicester anytime over the weekend of 26-27 January 2019, why not pop along to the National Space Centre? Not only is it an interesting place in its own right, but (for the fifth year in a row I think) it wil be hosting a Doctor Who packed event Science of the Time…

The Mistpuddle Murders review

The November 2018 Short Trips is Simon A Forward’s The Mistpuddle Murders. It’s a curious and entertaining tale, read by Sarah Sutton, and including the Fifth Doctor and Tegan. It’s very much in the style of a classic English detective story, think Agatha Christie and the like with Nyssa leading the denouement over afternoon tea. So far,…

Ghost Walk review

Another month, another great Big Finish main range story! This time it’s the James Goss tale Ghost Walk. My review is on Starburst: DOCTOR WHO 235: GHOST WALK but it’s worth a mention for Barnaby Edwards’s great direction, Sarah Sutton has a lot to do as Nyssa and really the whole Fifth Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric team…

A Heart on Both Sides review

So, with Rob Nisbet’s A Heart on Both Sides the Time War comes to the Short Trips range, and we learn just what Nyssa did next, next as in long after any travels with the Fifth Doctor. As the cover makes clear, this is an Eighth Doctor story, and comes out just in time to get us in the mood…

The Toy reviewed

Originally meant as a Monthly Short Trips, this Fifth Doctor Nigel Fairs story The Toy was, in fact, given away as the free gift with the third subscription package of Doctor Who: The Complete History. Big Finish has included a ‘this is Big Finish’ advert / documentary as the extras, but in essence this is a standard half-hour story…

Short Trips King of the Dead reviewed

May 2015 brought us the Monthly Short Trips story King of the Dead. Narrated by Sarah Sutton, this half hour piece is the first release to have been written by Producers’ Assistant Ian Atkins. It is a Fifth Doctor story with Nyssa and Tegan as companions. So far these short tales have been interesting and worth the small…
